Young basketballers quell Syrian rivals at WABA C’ships

TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) – Iran’s junior basketball team pulled out a sweeping victory over Syria in their second encounter at 2017 WABA U17 Championship underway in Tehran.

On the second day of the tournament on Monday, host Persians offered stunning athletic performances to down Syrian opponents 114-49.

Iran’s strength outweighed that of the Syrian sider as young Iranian basketball players firmly gained the upper hand in all four quarters (23-8, 26-8, 27-13 and 38-20).

Previously on the opening they of the sportive event, Iran had thrashed Iraqis 69-47. Meanwhile, Iraq suffered a 74-71 loss in the face of Jordan, who in turn, had previously conceded a defeat against Lebanese contestants.

Iranians are slated to take up Jordan in the third debut to convene on Wednesday in Tehran.

The 2017 edition of WABA U17 Championship, which is attended by national teams of Iran, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, in being competed in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
