TEHRAN, Jul. 22 (MNA) – Iranian defense minister has said national unity in Iraq would guarantee stability, security and protection of the interests of all the tribes in Iraq underlining that divergent movements in Iraq are not acceptable for the Islamic Republic.

Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan made the remarks in a meeting held after a ceremony to welcome Iraqi counterpart Erfan al-Hiyali who arrived in Tehran on Saturday.

Felicitating Iraqi forces’ recent victories in the fight against terrorism and the liberation of Mosul, Dehghan said Iraq’s achievements have been the result of the nation’s courage and unity.

Pointing to the support of some regional countries for terrorism in complicity with the US and the Zionist regime to insecure the region, General called for a regional and international consensus to uproot terrorism.

“The security of Iraq is the security of Iran,” he said, adding we will cooperate with the Iraqi government and the people, and we will continue our support, and will combine all our political, economic and military powers alongside Iraq’s capabilities to create lasting security and stability in the country.

Dehghan expressed hope that the visit of the Iraqi minister of defense to Iran and the signing of a defense cooperation document between the two countries would accelerate this process and establish solid relations in the field of defense.

Meanwhile, al-Hiyali expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iran and thanked the undisputed support of Iranian government, nation and the armed forces for Iraq in the fight against terrorism and the decisive role of these supports in Iraq's victory over ISIL.

He also hailed the positive role of Grand Ayatollah Sistani's Fatwa as a guarantee for the victory of Iraq.

He pointed to Iran-Iraq common views, aims and interests, stressing promotion of defense-military relations and cooperation.
