An Iranian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi will take part in Astana meeting on Syrian crisis Saturday noon local time.
The delegation left Tehran Friday night for the Kazakh city of Almaty and will begin consultations with delegations from Russia and Turkey immediately after arriving in Astana.
The aim of Saturday talks is to prepare the necessary conditions for a successful holding of the Astana meeting which is slated for 23-24 January. Presidents of Iran, Russia, and Turkey are scheduled to attend the talks between the Syrian government representatives and the opposition groups.
Objectives of the Astana talks include a sustainable ceasefire, an effective fight against terrorism and Syrian-Syrian talks between the government and the opposition for achieving a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
