“There were a host of bilateral and specialized meeting in the course of the last two days of Astana II talks,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari told Iran’s IRIB late on Thursday. He added that there was also a meeting in the afternoon.
The diplomat recounted that the final negotiations were held by the delegations of Iran, Turkey, and Russia and the final document of Astana II was completed. “These three countries agreed to form the Joint Supervisory Commission on Ceasefire in the first edition of Astana talks and the agreement was put into effect in the second edition of the event.”
Cementing ceasefire, bolstering trust-making measures between the two sides, and discussing all things that can contribute to Syrian-Syrian solution of the crisis in the Arab country are among the goals of the Joint Committee, according to the Iranian deputy FM. “The Committee will hold regular meetings and follow up the implementation of ceasefire.”
He stated that the Astana Talks is a start of a long path which has been taken with assurance.
Answering questions about the reason of the Turkish delegation and the Syrian opposition groups’ late show up at the event, the Iranian diplomat quoted the Turkish saying that technical issues, late reception of the invitation, and domestic involvements with the Turkish president’s regional travels, caused their late arrival.
