FM spox. condemns Sadr City terrorist blast

TEHRAN, Jan. 02 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesperson has condemned terrorist blasts in Baghdad downtown and in Sadr City which killed more than 35 civilians.

Mr. Bahram Ghasemi was responding officially to terrorist suicide attacks in Baghdad; “the attacks indicate that terrorists had been frustrated with their defeats and grim prospects in Mosul and Aleppo; it is also indicative of the fact that there is no strong resolve to address the issue among the powers with a claim on fighting terrorism,” Ghasemi told the press.

“The new year will hopefully be a time for new coalitions and consensus to fight and uproot terrorism; the Foreign Ministry offers condolences to the families of victims of the terror attack which had been largely laborers and innocent civilians,” he added.

“A car bomb has exploded north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, leaving at least 35 people dead and dozens more wounded. Police sources said the bombing took place at a busy square in Sadr City, a Shia-populated suburban district of Baghdad on Monday. More than 60 people were also wounded in the explosion. Many of the victims were daily laborers waiting for jobs at an intersection in the area,” Iran’s English-language Press TV reported on Monday.
