UT inks MoU with Sultan Qaboos University

TEHRAN, Jan. 02 (MNA) – University of Tehran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sultan Qaboos University of Oman.

Institute of Geophysics of University of Tehran inked an agreement with Sultan Qaboos University of Oman to exchange online seismic data.

The agreement was signed between the two universities in order to better cover seismic sources in Makran Trench, in particular subduction zone along the northeastern margin of the Gulf of Oman adjacent to the southwestern coast of Balochistan of Pakistan and the southeastern coast of Iran, as well as to more precisely record earthquakes in the South East of Iran.

Currently seismic data of two seismic stations of Oman Sea border affiliated to seismological center of Geophysics Institute at University of Tehran and two other earthquake seismic stations in Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University on the southern edge of the Gulf of Oman are received online in both countries and used for purposes related to earthquake and tsunami crisis management.
