Karen Karapetyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, made the remarks at a meeting with Governor of Iran Customs Administration (ICA) Masoud Karbasian and his accompanying delegation adding “not only is Iran a friend country for Armenia but also it is an excellent partner since both sides enjoy a high level of political relations.”
“A great potential exists for development and reinvigoration of economic ties no to mention that customs collaborations could help further improve existing ties,” he underlined.
Armenia’s prime minister went on to underscore that, at a cabinet meeting on Saturday, relevant ministries of his country had been urged form a working group in order to boost exports to and facilitate trade with Iran in addition to discuss prospects of establishing a free zone in bordering areas with Iranian businessmen.
ICA Head Karbasian, for his part, congratulated Karen Karapetyan on his appointment as Prime Minister of Armenia and wished him success and prosperity.
He later presented the outcomes of his earlier negotiations with Head of State Revenue Committee of Armenia Vardan Harutyunyan saying “a series of coordination were made as well as that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for customs cooperation was inked.”
“Electronic exchange of necessary information and informing citizens of Armenia and Iran about customs regulations as well as cooperation and exchange of experiences between free economic zones of the two countries all hold great significance hence the signing of an MoU.”
The official said Iran could also cooperate with the Eurasian Union through free economic zones; “Armenia is able to act as a bridge between Iran and the Eurasian Union helping to implement joint venture programs.”
Armenia’s PM Karapetyan said in response that his country was fully ready to provide proper grounds to link the Eurasian Union with Iran.
He also welcomed the initiative to improve customs affairs between Iran and Armenia as well as measures to facilitate conditions for commute between the two sides.
Later at the meeting, both parties exchanged views on issues of common interest as regards transportation and bolstering of relations in areas pertaining to transit infrastructure.
