Jalil Eslami, the general manager of Khouzestan’s Ports and Shipping Department General, stated, “Within the next few days, the first cargo ship, called Yasooj, will arrive at Bandar Imam from Malta. The cargo ship, with the capacity of carrying 2,500 containers, belongs to the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and other scheduled weekly transportation from other European ports to Bandar Imam will follow thereafter.”
He added that the establishment of this maritime shipping line, called ECL, has been the result of the joint effort and cooperation between this provincial department general and the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines. Given Bandar Imam lower cost, its harbor facilities for assisting the berthing and stevedoring of the liners as well as its geographical advantages (located on the utmost northwest of the Persian Gulf and offering the shortest land transportation to the other parts of the country) the sea cargo delivery to this port will be twice as much attractive as compared with the other southern ports in the region, he noted.
About 70% of Iran’s industrial, agricultural, and commercial centers are situated in the western half of the country, not to mention the population concentration. The Iran Jonoub (South) Shipping Line in Bandar Imam has made the cost reduction in cargo delivery, by sea or land, as part of its inherent operational policies and has been offering necessary assistance to the merchants by wavering the cost between Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam, Jalil Eslami elaborated further.
