Mali voices support for Iran’s regional, intl. positions

BAMAKO, Jul. 29 (MNA) – President of Mali’s National Assembly in a Thu. meeting with Iran’s FM Zarif stressed his country’s ‘perpetual and definitive’ support for Tehran’s positions in the region and international communities.

Issaka Sidibé hailed the good relations between Tehran and Bamako, and underscored his country’s serious resolve in improving ties with the Islamic Republic.

He also deemed his recent meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani ‘a matter of great pride’ and thanked Iran for providing medical aid to Malian people.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, for his part, voiced Iran’s readiness to aid Mali in combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

He attached great significance to Iran-Mali ties, saying the country’s history and role in promoting Islam is highly valuable to Iran.

Zarif further expressed hope that Mali’s financial problems would be soon resolved and voiced confidence that the African country’s various financial capacities would make Iran’s presence in Mali’s trade projects even more successful.

On the fourth leg of his West African tour, Zarif arrived in Mali on Thursday for talks with the country’s senior officials after his visits to Nigeria, Ghana and Guinea.

The Iranian foreign minister returned home on Friday morning after his six-day African tour.
