Iranian university basketball team, who had reached the finals of the Asian tourney by defeating China B squad, prevailed over Macau in the title clash and scooped the gold medal as well as securing a place at FIBA 3x3 World Championships to be held in China.
On Saturday afternoon, the Payame Noor University outfit, which is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the six-day tournament, won over Macau 21-16 standing on top of the podium.
Meanwhile, the repechage fixture was held between China and Hong Kong at the main gym of the University of Macau where the Chinese side came out victorious to stand in the third place.
Iranian basketball players had finished third in the first edition of the sportive event.
The second edition of the Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship started in Macau on July 19 and came to an end on July 23.
A total of 22 teams from 12 countries and regions, including Brunei, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand were competing in men’s and women’s contests, as well as the individual contest of men’s dunk and women’s shootout.
The 3x3 (pronounced three on three) basketball is a form of the game played three a side on one hoop.
