Iran, Austria to work on 15 joint tech. projects

TEHRAN, Jul. 21 (MNA) – An Austrian delegation of science and technology experts visited the vice-presidency for science and technology in Tehran on Thursday.

“Since last year, Iran has been visited by numerous Austrian delegations which has led to decent interactions in scientific and technologic areas,” said Ali Morteza Birang, Deputy Science Vice-President for International Affairs, on Thursday, in his meeting with Dr. Gernot Grimm, head of staff group for technology transfer and security research at the BMVIT (Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology), in Tehran.

Birang made the remark while receiving the Austrian delegation, led by Dr. Gernot Grimm. The Iranian official underlined that Iran and Austria have always held friendly and constructive ties and cooperation with Austria was of high value for Iran.

“Iran has many plans for scientific and technologic activities, and while Iran may be known mostly because of its nuclear program, nano-technology and stem-cells technology are very developed in Iran,” contended the Iranian official.

Birang boasted that Iran currently holds the 6th place in the world in the area of nano-technology while it ranked 56th just ten years ago. He stressed that Iran with 1 per cent of the world’s population produces 4 per cent of world’s output in nano-technology.

“The economic cooperation road map of Iran and Austria is a 5 year plan of high importance for both countries and the parts about scientific cooperation are followed by vice-presidency for science,” articulated Mr. Birang adding that renewable energies, environment-friendly technologies, and a host of other areas are the fields of cooperation between Tehran and Vienna and 15 joint projects have been finalized so far.
