20 foreigners arrested ‘seeking to join ISIL’

TABRIZ, Jun. 07 (MNA) – East Azerbaijan’s provincial head of Intelligence Office has said ISIL-affiliated groups have been systematically under surveillance across the province.

Alireza Rezaei who was speaking to reporters on Tuesday in northeastern city of Tabriz, said that his intelligence operatives had succeeded to detect and arrest a group of 20 people, majority foreign nationals, who had been planning to join ISIL in Syria and Iraq; “we recommend the public to cooperate with intelligence operatives and offices across the province in helping us detect timely the sabotage acts and or terrorist-affiliated threats; their cooperation will definitely enrich and strengthen our efforts to protect the public from terrorism and other sorts of threat,” he told reporters.
