‘Iran, Indonesia paid heavy prices to counter terrorism’

TEHRAN, Mar. 15 (MNA) – President Rouhani says Iran and Indonesia have paid heavy prices in fight against terrorism and that the two states should introduce true face of Islam.

Meeting with Indonesian President's special envoy to the Middle East and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Alwi Abdurrahman Shihab in Tehran this morning, President Rouhani stressed on the role of the two countries as two Asian Islamic nations and members to Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and OIC in driving regional and international issues.

Hassan Rouhani pointed to Indonesia as the most populated Islamic country and highlighting cultural commonalities between the two nations, expressed Tehran’s willingness to boost all-out ties with Jakarta.

He further stated that Iran and Indonesia had paid heavy prices in fighting against terrorism and extremism and that Tehran and Jakarta should introduce true face of Islam to the world to confront evil phenomenon of terrorism and violence.

“Tehran and Jakarta share similar cultural and political views based on Islam and anti-imperialism approaches, and can have brighter perspectives of mutual relations in future,” said Rouhani.

Iranian president also appreciated official invitation by Indonesian president for his visit to the country in order to attend 60th annual meeting of Bandung Conference (Asian-African Conference).

Alwi Shihab, for his part, offered the official invitation to President Rouhani and described friendly cooperation sentiment and strengthening of member states in applying experiences in challenge confrontations as main goals of the conference.

Shihab pointed to the Indonesian nation’s enthusiasm in the Islamic Revolution of Iran and its resistance against hegemonies, and expressed Indonesia’s readiness to develop bilateral ties with Iran. He also expressed hope that Iran nuclear talks would bear results in near future to pave the way for Indonesian companies to enter Iranian markets.
