Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan sign draft to cooperate on energy synchronization

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Draft of synchronization document among Iran, Russia, and Republic of Azerbaijan was signed in Tehran on October 25 in the presence of electricity industry officials of the three countries, a ministry official told Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.

Massud Hojjat, acting Chairman of Iran’s TAVANIR Co., Dimitri Volkov Deputy of Northern Caucasus District Electricity Management of Russia, and Nur Ali Yusuf Beili, Deputy of Republic of Azerbaijan’s Dispatching Electricity Management signed the draft.

Grounds would be paved for Iran’s connection to world’s energy market via joining the electricity networks of Russia and Republic of Azerbaijan, the report added.

“Through this connection, the three countries could simultaneously use the other’s electricity networks when it is necessary”, Hojjat said.

He added that the connection is important because it intensifies and expands Iran’s power grid sustainability.

Iran’s power grid would connect to Russia’s 200,000-MW network via connection to Republic of Azerbaijan’s electricity network, which paves ground for Iran’s entrance to the world’s energy market, Hojjat noted.

Expressing satisfaction on signing the document, Dimitri Volkov stated, “Connection of Iran’s power grid to Russia’s electricity network is of paramount importance for us, the best part of which is synchronization of the two power grids”.

In his part, Nur Ali Yusef Bili said, “With the connection of the three power grids, we also make efforts to fulfill purposes of North-South Energy Corridor through Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran.”

The synchronization agreement is to be finalized by managers of Iran’s TAVANIR Co., Russia’s Raivas Co., and Azerbaijan’s Azar Energy Co. in the next month.
