“Deep Breath” Not Made for Foreign Festivals: Director

TEHRAN, December 9 (Mehr News Agency) –- The director of the feature film “Deep Breath” said that he has not made the film just to participate in foreign festivals, but the Iranian audience is his main focus.

Taking part in the student meeting held at the College of Literature Allameh Tabatabaei University, Parviz Shahbazi added, “I made a film about a 14-year old young adult 6 years ago and now I felt the need to make a film on young people in their twenties. I believe I know the young generation well and understand their problems, aims, and ideals.”

“The film tries to review and criticize certain social events and social foundations,” said Shahbazi. On attracting moviegoers, he said that he has used none of the techniques exploited in some films to draw more people to the cinema. However, almost 100,000 people have so far seen the film.

“Deep Breath” won the best screenplay award at the 21st Fajr International Film Festival and it is also the only film from Iran represented in the foreign section of the Academy Awards (Oscars).
