Iran criticizes IAEA over political remark beyond its mandate

TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman lashed out at IAEA for straying beyond its mandate into political commentary on issues like the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s missile program, warning that this undermines its credibility.

In a post on his X account on Sunday, he wrote, “The IAEA’s mandate is verification, not political messaging about the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s missiles, or how Tehran should conduct itself.”

“When professional impartiality is compromised for political signaling or personal ambition, institutions erode their credibility – and, over time, their effectiveness as well,” Baghaei underlined.
