Iran, Syria officials stress bolstering trade-economic ties

TEHRAN, Dec. 11 (MNA) – Officials from Iran and Syria stressed the need to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries in the fields of trade and economy.

Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil in a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash in Tehran said the negotiations between Iran and Syria on the development of ties that lasted for 15 years have been put into operation in the recent year.

Syria is keen on boosting trade and economic relations with Iran, he underlined.

Iran’s minister of roads and head of the Iran-Syria Joint Economic Commission said many of the agreements inked previously between the two countries have become operational thanks to the nonstop efforts of the two sides.

The establishment of a joint bank in Syria has been finalized, he said, adding that the bank will start its activities in the coming days.

Moreover, the two countries will launch insurance activities and issuance of insurance policies, Bazrpash added.

Bazrpash pointed out that Iranian companies have agreed to repair and construct a power plant in Syria, which is in the final stages.

Launching a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and minimizing trade tariff rates to zero level between Iran and Syria were among the other topics discussed by the two sides.

Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, heading a high-profile delegation, arrived in Tehran on Friday evening to bolster bilateral ties in all fields.
