Iranian, Tajik presidents hold talks in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, July 25 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad held talks with his Tajik counterpart Imomali Rakhmonov here on Tuesday in a visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties.

“We consider the peace and stability of Tajikistan as our own and think it can pave the ground for the development of the region,” Ahmadinejad told a joint press conference after talks with Rakhmonov .

 

Referring to the agreements signed during his visit, Ahmadinejad said that the two countries are determined to promote mutual ties.

 

“During the friendly talks, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tajikistan announced their interest in boosting ties in the fields of transportation, energy, culture, and trade,” he added.

 

“I suggested establishing a joint Persian language TV network for Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan which will be discussed in tripartite talks on Wednesday,” Ahmadinejad said.

 

“I also proposed setting up joint schools, exchanging university students, and jointly publishing books which were welcomed by the Tajik side.”

 

Rakhmonov  said that Tajikistan is ready to step up its cooperation with Iran in all areas.
