Iran’s beach soccer team moves into 2nd spot in world ranking

TEHRAN, Dec. 01 (MNA) – Iran's national beach soccer team has moved up into the second rank in the latest report released by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW).

Following its historic success in the International Cup in Dubai last month, the Iranian team has moved up into the second spot in world ranking with 2,573 points.

The Iranian team sits atop Portugal (2,450 points), Russia (2,017 points) and Italy (1,978 points). The first rank belongs to Brazil with 3,875 points.

As far as Asian teams are concerned, Iran tops the ranking with a significant difference in total points. Japan, United Arab Emirates and Oman hold Asia’s ranks of two to four with 1,083, 969 and 633 points respectively.

Iran's national team claimed the 2018 Huawei International Beach Soccer Cup, in Dubai, after defeating the former champion, Russia.

In 2017 FIFA World Soccer World Cup held in Bahamas, the Iranian team made history by winning Italy 5-3 in third-place play off and snatching the bronze medal of the event for the first time in Asia’s history.
