Iran crowned at Huawei International Beach Soccer Cup

TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (MNA) – The national team of Iran claimed the 2018 Huawei International Beach Soccer Cup after defeating the former champion, Russia, in the final match on Saturday.

Organized by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) and Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the competition was held in Dubai on November 6-10.

Iran, the 2013 champion of the event, won the final 4-2 against Russia. Mostafa Kiani’s free-kick at 4th minute took a fortunate bobble and flew over Russia’s goalkeeper. Masoumizadeh doubled the lead for Iran some three minutes later. At the 11th minute, Iranian goalkeeper Behzadpour scored a stunner and the match ended 3-0 for Iran in the first period.

Paporotnyi reduced the deficit to two at the beginning of the second period. However, the own goal of Russia’s captain Shkarin somehow shattered their dream of lifting the trophy. Five minutes to go, Paporotnyi offered the team a faint hope by cutting the deficit to two once more. However, the Russian side didn't have the required cutting edge and the match ended 4-2 for Iran.

The Best Goalkeeper of the event went to Behzadpour of Iran, Rodrigo of Brazil won Top Scorer with a total of eight goals, and the MVP went to Russian number 22, Zemskov.Iran had outplayed USA 8-1, Tahiti 4-2, Russia 3-2 in the group stage, before beating Egypt 3-1 in the semifinal.

Also, Brazil, the reigning champion, finished third after winning Egypt 5-3 in the third-place playoff.
