Iran wins team kumite, finishes runner-up at Asian Karate C’ships

TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – Iran claimed the title of men’s team kumite event and finished Asian Karate Championships at the second place with eight medals.

The Iranian squad beat Saudi Arabia 3-0 in the final of men’s team kumite and claimed the prestigious title for the second time in a raw.

Iran’s team kumite, comprising Zabeihollah Poursheib, Bahman Asgari, Saleh Abazari, Sajad Ganjzadeh and Keivan Baban, had gained victory against Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Iraq and Japan in their route to the final.

In total of men’s and women’s competitions, Iran collected four gold, one silver and three bronze medals and finished the event as runner up. Japan crowned the event.

More than 300 karateka from 29 countries participated in 15th Asian Karate Championship held in Amman, Jordan on June 13 to 16.
