After his meeting with Iranian counterpart in Yerevan, Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan held a joint press conference with Dr. Zarif and the two sides talked of more future cooperation.
For his part, Iranian foreign minister expressed his happiness with the hospitability of Armenian officials during his second visit to the country and said that “I would like to express my gratitude to our neighboring country Armenia and my good friend, Eduard Nalbandyan. I would also like to thank you for offering your condolences and sympathies with the Iranian people and government on the earthquake in Kermanshah. Iran and Armenia are two good neighbors and the Islamic Republic of Iran has always wanted friendly relations with all its neighbors. There are lots of fields to expand the relations and cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan.”
Zarif also said “the friendly relationship between Tehran and Yerevan has a long history…I am very pleased to announce that a high-level delegation comprising of the most important economic institutions are here to develop the relations between two countries’ private sectors as the development of relations is in interest of both of us.”
Foreign minister also pointed out that the most important areas of economic cooperation between Iran and Armenia are transit and energy sectors and said ”but, our cooperation is not limited to these two areas and environmenal and technical and engineering cooperation are also of high importance for us.”
At the end, Zarif thanked Armenia’s support for Iran in international organizations and noted, "we hope that peace and stability come to the region and this trip can enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries."
For his part the Armenian Foreign Minister said that “his country’s PM visit to Iran is on the agenda of both sides and today Mr. Zarif is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister and our President.”
Referring to his willingness to develop bilateral relations, Nalbandian said, " Foreign minister Zarif and I will not miss any opportunity for dialogue. This year marks the twentieth year of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two countries have pledged their determination to develop and strengthen relations.”
