“The blind and cowardly acts of some mercenary terrorists which led to the martyrdom of a number of innocent people at the Mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic and the ‘House of People’ were not unprecedented for a nation that has withstood brutal terror and the Imposed War for years,” President Rouhani said in a message following the twin terrorist attacks in Tehran on Parliament and Imam Khomeini's shrine which led to the martyrdom of 12 people and injury of 42 others.
“Iran today has realized all elements of national power after about four decades since the establishment of Islamic Revolution and ‘religious democracy’,” Rouhani continued, “it is therefore only natural that enemies of the Islamic Iran would be unable to tolerate such grandeur and unity among our nation and government, and attempt to hire and sponsor reactionary and Takfiri terrorists in order to cover up their own defeats in the region as well as the collapse of their Islamic values and their discontent with their own societies.”
The president went on to stress, “today’s terrorist attacks in Tehran will no doubt give further strength and impetus to Iran’s resolve for fighting regional terrorism, extremism and violence.”
“Iran’s message, as always, is that terrorism is a common issue and the most important need of today’s global community is regional and international cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism,” he said.
President Rouhani further expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of victims, and highlighted that all security bodies in the country will unite and coordinate efforts to shed light on all aspects of the attacks and their covert and overt sponsors.
