Iran, France call for closer coop. after Tehran terror attacks

TEHRAN, Jun. 08 (MNA) – Presidents of Iran and France voiced readiness to further joint cooperation on combating terrorism following the Wed. terrorist attacks in Tehran.

In a telephone conversation initiated by French President Emanuel Macron on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani thanked the French government and nation for voicing solidarity with the Iranian nation and the families of victims of twin attacks in Tehran which killed 13 people and wounded 52 others, adding “the terrorist attacks in Tehran will further strengthen the resolve of Iranian nation and government for fighting terrorism.”

President Rouhani stressed that combating terrorism needs joint and coordinated measures on the international scene, adding “the Iranian nation will undoubtedly continue the fight against terrorism by standing beside the other free nations in the world.”

“Tehran is ready to expand and deepen cooperation with Paris for combating terrorism,” he stressed.

Rouhani maintained that ‘democracy’ and the ‘presence of people’ in various scenes will be the greatest move against terrorism, adding “we must not allow sponsors of terrorism to continue supporting terrorists on the international scene.”

President Rouhani further discussed regional developments, saying political talks are the most efficient way to settle differences and resolve conflicts in the region.

French President Macron, for his part, extended his condolences over the death of a number of Iranian people in the blind terrorist attacks, adding “we are fully prepared to expand our cooperation with Tehran for a more decisive battle against terrorism.”

He also voiced his country’s interest in developing ties with Iran in all areas of mutual interest.

During the phone call, the two sides also noted their shared position on issues related to Syria and Yemen, calling for the continuation of talks and exchange of views on these issues.
