Hassan Rouhani wins Iran's presidential election

TEHRAN, May 20 (MNA) – Incumbent president Hassan Rouhani won with resounding majority against his rival Ebrahim Raisi with 57 percent of the vote, to extend his time in office.

The Interior Minister Abdolreza Ramani Fazli announced at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday announced Rouhani as the winner of the 12th Iran presidential election with 23,549,616 out of 41,221,310 votes, after counting 99.7 of the ballot boxes.

His main challenger Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi, who is former deputy of Judiciary and current custodian of Astan Quds Razavi (Holy Shrine of Imam Reza) in Mashhad, earned 15,786,449 of votes, standing the next after Dr. Rouhani.

Other two candidates, Seyed Mostafa Mirsalim and Seyed Mostafa Hashemitaba, each gained 478,215 and 215,450 of the votes, respectively.

A big turnout on Friday, more than 41 million out of 56 million registered voters, led to the vote being extended by several hours to deal with long queues on Friday.
