Iran books berth in World Beach Handball Championship

TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) – The Iranian national beach handball team defeated Vietnam to rank third at Asian Men's & Women's Beach Handball Championship in Thailand.

Competing in the playoff match, the Persian blanked Vietnam 2-1 (15-10, 16-20, 8-6) in Pattaya, Thailand and received tickets to the 2018 IHF World Beach Handball Championship.

Iran had previously subdued Afghanistan (2-0), the UAE (2-0), Thailand (2-0) and lost to Vietnam (2-1) and Oman (2-1) in the prestigious Asian event.

Qatar breezed past Oman 2-0 in the final showdown to secure the title for the fourth consecutive time.

The Asian Men's & Women's Beach Handball Championship began in Pattaya, Thailand, on May 8, and came to an end on May 15, 2017.

The top three teams qualified for the Beach Handball World Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Sochi, Russia, next year.

The World Beach Handball Championship is a biannual beach handball competition for women and men national teams. It was first organized by the International Handball Federation in 2004.
