Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stressed the ambiguous aspects of the regrettable chemical explosion in Idlib province in Syria, adding “there is no operational and political reason, sign and justification for the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government. Many years ago and with the government’s cooperation, all chemical weapons in possession of Syria were collected, transferred and destroyed by UN inspectors.”
The Iranian senior official further highlighted the need for an independent fact-finding team to investigate the cause of chemical explosion in Idlib province.
“While political and military trends are moving toward the eradication of terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, such measures as US missile attack on Syria was completely oriented and aimed at bolstering the spirit and military strength of terrorism,” he added.
Shamkhani deemed the US military aggression in Syria a clear sign of this country’s continued policy for exploiting terrorism to achieve its own political agenda in Syria, adding “such measures will undoubtedly cause further complication to political and security equations in Syria and the formation of dangerous and unpredictable trends, but will not deter the Syrian government and nation from their resolute fight against terrorism backed by the West, Israel and its Arab allies."
