2nd Intl. Mycobacteriology Congress opens in Isfahan

TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (MNA) – The second Asian-African Society of Mycobacteriology (AASM) with participation of 120 international scientific figures has kicked off Sat. in Isfahan by Chairman of the society Ali Akbar Velayati.

The Congress brings together about 120 international scientific figures from 42 Asian, European and African countries as well 130 Iranian guests for a four-day event that will run through February 28, 2017.

According to the director of the congress, Dr. Parisa Farnia, about 200 scientific papers had been accepted into the congress, 100 of which will be presented orally and the rest as posters.  

“Mycobacteriology is a group of bacteria that can cause tuberculosis, lung diseases, leprosy and extrapulmonary TB. Given the fact that a great number of world population currenty suffers from such diseases, conducting extensive studies on this type of bacteria is highly significant,” She said.

The Asian-African Society of Mycobacteriology, founded in 2009, is a non-profit, scientific organization whose mission is to establish unilateral, bilateral and multilateral networks of scientific research and training among experts from AASM countries.

AASM is committed to make a network of laboratories, improve diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mycobacterial diseases, promote training programs for MD and PhD students and increase funding for relevant research, among other objectives.
