Secretary General of Iran's Fisheries Union Ali Akbar Khodaei made the remarks stating that “the volume of shrimp farming inside the country stood at about 17 thousand tons in the previous year while the figure has grown by three thousand tons so far in the present Iranian calendar year (to end March 20).”
He estimated that at least 25 thousand tons of shrimp will be cultivated in Iran during the upcoming year.
Khodaei stressed that the estimated target for shrimp production had been set at 18 to 20 thousand tons for the ongoing year, an aim which “has been fortunately realized.”
On exports of the aquatic product, Khodaei explained that “approximately nine thousand tons of shrimp were deployed to global markets in the first nine months of the present year, a figure which resembles the 7,800 tons of the earlier year.”
“The exported products have been worth 40.5 million dollars in the current year while the value stood at 34 million dollars a year ago.”
Secretary General of Iran's Fisheries Union estimated that the aggregate total of shrimp exports will climb to 14 thousand tons by the end of the year while the figure was 12,500 tons in the past year.
He underscored that Russia ranked first among European countries as regards imports of Iranian shrimp adding “prior to sanction years, Europe was the main destination for the Iranian aquatic product while Arabic countries in the region, Middle Eastern states and the ones in Southeast Asia became major buyers of Iran’s shrimp once international sanctions were imposed.”
In the previous Iranian year, China, Southeast Asian countries, Arab states of the region like UAE and Middle Easter countries were major customers of the product respectively; “in present year, however, Russia and Spain ranked first and second among European buyers of Iranian shrimp.”
Ali Akbar Khodaei stressed that shrimp exports to Russia would follow an upward trend in the years to come concluding that plans were being made to increase exports volume of salmon to the Eurasian country.
