The closing ceremony saw a military parade of the participating units on Wednesday. The drill covered a vast area in the south, southwest and southeast of the country along the isles of the Persian Gulf. More than 17,000 personnel from army, navy and aerial forces are taking part in the exercise.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA quoted the spokesperson of the drill Brig. Gen. Abbas Farajpour speaking in the closing day of the drill; “during 72 hours of the drill, electronic surveillance and target detection, successful shooting of aerial targets by Army air defense, offensive electronic operation, crisis management, and civil defense operations, and the launching of first ever native system Talash and destroying imaginary drones of the enemy, 12 cases of issuing warnings to international planes, and providing health services to the native people had been only part of the joint drill,” he told IRNA. “Velayat Sky saw destroying of an imaginary drone in the closing day flying just above Bushehr Nuclear Plant by Skyguard system through optic targeting.”
The drill covered 498,000 square kilometers in a part of the air space which was the busiest in terms of air traffic passing over the country; the spokesperson also said that over 1,000 air defense points were covered by the IRGC and Army units, contributed to by Basij and Law Enforcement Force aerial units; “the human force engaged in the drill amounted to 17,000 conscription and cadre personnel; the drill had largely been successful in attaining the objectives set by the high command: to improve coordination and operational capabilities of the Army Air Defense as one of the youngest bodies of the military,” he concluded.
