Iran Railways CEO resigns over train collision

TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (MNA) – CEO of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Mohsen Pourseyed Aghaei, has tendered his resignation over the Fri. tragic incident where two trains collided in northern Iran, killing 44 people and injuring dozens of others.

“Human factors were to blame for the incident that occurred due to wrong decisions made,” the CEO of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Mohsen Pourseyed Aghaei said Saturday.

He went on to add, “still, managers should assume responsibility for such incidents, and for this reason, while asking the honorable Iranian people for forgiveness, I have officially tendered my resignation over this tragic incident.”

“The obvious fact in the collision of the two trains on the main line between Semnan and Damghan is that a failure had occurred that involves the railway management, and for this reason I submitted my resignation to Minister of Roads and Urban Development, which he accepted,” he said.

44 people have been killed and dozens of others injured when two passenger trains collided in Iran's north-central province of Semnan. The crash occurred at the Haft-Khan station in the city of Shahroud, about 400km east of the capital Tehran, when one of the trains entering the station struck another that had stopped due to mechanical failure.
