Rouhani orders immediate inquiry on train collision

TEHRAN, Nov. 26 (MNA) – President Rouhani asked in an executive order to his First VP Es'hagh Jahangiri to pursue the causes of train collision in the northern Semnan province.

Following the deadly collision of two trains destined from Tabriz-Mashad and Mashad-Semnan at Haftkhan station in Damghan on Friday morning, Rouhani ordered immediate investigation into the cause of the tragic incident and introduction of those responsible for negligence.

He also asked for immediate health services to the injured passengers and crew and condoled with the families who lost their loved ones.

Meanwhile, he urged Ministry of Roads and Transportation to prevent repetition of such human disaster.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani also urged in a letter to the Head of Civil Commission Mohammad Reza Rezaei Kochi to dispatch a committee to the scene and to submit a final report to the Parliament after the exact investigation of causes.

At least 44 people have been killed and 100 others injured when two passenger trains collided in Iran's north-central province of Semnan, and the death toll is likely to rise, according to news reports and local officials.
