The second semifinal showdown of the Asian tourney was competed on Saturday in Azadi Sports Complex where the Iranian squad brought South Korean rivals to their knees securing an 87-63 victory.
The Persian came out ahead of South Korea in four straight quarters (21-18, 24-11, 21-20 and 21-15) on road to the finals of the tournament where they will meet Japan.
Iran’s outfit had reached the semifinal round by beating title holder China though they had conceded a narrow defeat against South Korea earlier in the group stage.
Iran, who finished as the fourth placed team in Group B, will vie for its third title after securing the crown in 2004 and 2008. The Iranian basketballers also finished runners-up in 2002 and 2014.
Top three teams of the Asian games will qualify for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship to be held in the Egyptian capital of Cairo from 1 to 9 July 2017.
The 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship, which marks the 24th edition of the continental sports event, began in the Iranian capital on July 22 and will conclude today on July 31.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was drawn in Group B of the preliminary round of the sports event, and has joined Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon and South Korea.
Group A consisted of China, Taiwan, India, Iraq, the Philippines and Thailand.
