On Friday, the Iranian basketball squad, who had gained the top position in Pool F, faced India and managed to pull out a 77-47 victory against the South Asian contestants.
Persians had previously overwhelmed Qatar, Iraq, Thailand, Japan and South Korea in order to secure a place at the quarterfinal showdown as the only undefeated team in the tournament.
In other quarterfinal bouts on Friday, South Korea breezed past China 70-69 and Iraqis gained an 87-82 victory over China.
Accordingly, South Korea and Iraq will meet in the semifinals today as well as that Taiwan and China will fight over fifth to eighth places.
Iran’s national basketball outfit, defending champion from 2014, is also scheduled to take on Jordan today given Jordanians' 87-80 victory over Japan in the last quarterfinal match.
The 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge is the ongoing 6th FIBA Asia Challenge, an international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia which is being hosted by Iran from 9–18 September 2016.
The tournament serves as the first step in determining the process of the qualifiers for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup which will feature teams from both FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania for the first time.
