APA to become influential in Asia

TEHRAN, Apr. 26 (MNA) – APA presidency representative said Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) enjoys appropriate potentials to turn into an influential parliament in Asia.

Chit Kin Yeat made the remarks during the meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs on Tuesday morning in Tehran’s Espinas International Hotel; “to this end, we require budget and human resources," he asserted.

The official said APA aims to bring prosperity and peace to people adding “unity and solidarity must persist among members in order to make important decision at the meetings.”

He referred to social and cultural issues as the ground for cooperation among Asian states in the assembly; “necessary measures need to be taken in order to properly represent the Asian people.”

Yeat appreciated the presence of all delegations at the meeting on behalf of the Kingdom of Cambodia asserting “we believe that active participation of all delegations can pave the path to the goals pursued by APA.”

Later at the ceremony, Acting Secretary General of APA Masoud Islami highlighted “the present panels at the session are representing millions of people in Asia.”

Islami expressed hope that common efforts will concentrate on prosperity and advancement of Asian people in line with inter-religious dialogue, protection of the rights of migrant workers as well as the fight against corruption.

He emphasized the need for all APA’s capacities to flourish saying “despite being short-lived, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly has brought about important and impressive achievements and has managed to create a convergence among the members.”

At the end of his remarks, Islami expressed hope that the members will make efforts for development and integration in Asia by relying on APA’s enormous strengths and capabilities.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) First Executive Council and Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs Meetings opened in Tehran on Tuesday.
