NATO keeps aggressiveness against Russia

MOSCOW, Dec. 30 (MNA) – The Russia Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a report on the results of 2015, which warns that the Organization North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) continues to create threats to Russia's security.

The text alerts about the growing number of staff and means of the military block in Eastern Europe nations, of the Baltic, as well as the increase and intensity of the military maneuvers near the borders, which forces to take deterrence measures against these challenges.

The remaining channels of political dialogue with NATO and the bilateral contacts with its leadership and key members of that organization were used to explain the negative consequences and potential risks of changes to the current configuration of forces in Europe, the document adds.

The report puts on record that Moscow pays particular attention 'to the confrontational nature of the alliance when inviting Montenegro to start talks on its joining to the NATO, which will lead to the further fragmentation of the security space in Europe and the creation of new demarcation lines on the continent'.

Russia hopes that Washington quits the plans on the deployment and location of military equipment in the eastern flank of NATO, declared Maria Zajarova, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry.

This month, Liutenant General Ben Hodges, commander of US Army forces in Europe, said Washington plans to establish maintenance centers for military equipment in Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Romania in late 2016 and in Hungary in 2017.

If implemented, such measures will be close to violate key provisions of the 1997 Founding Act Russia-NATO, an agreement under which the alliance is required not to deploy significant fighting forces on permanent bases in the territory of these countries, said Zajarova.

The deployment of offensive equipment is exactly military presence, she said, adding that the fact that the troops formally are rotated, does not make any difference.

She also expressed the hope that 'the architects of the new Cold War overseas are convinced of the risks and the negative consequences of the forced militarization of one of the most peaceful regions in the world in military terms, and leave schemes and methods that belong to the era of confrontation between blocks'.
