West should remain committed to its obligations

TEHRAN, Nov. 07 (MNA) – President Rouhani has told his European guest a close relation between Iran and EU nations, students, and research centers would definitely benefit both sides as well as the international community.

President Rouhani and the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz sat together in Tehran on Saturday evening to discuss bilateral matters of interest, where Mr. Rouhani said that the grounds for improvements in Iran-EU relations were laid in an excellent manner; “in nuclear side of the issue, Iran has always been committed to its obligations and will act accordingly, and this is crucial that the 5+1 parties to the JCPOA with Iran remain committed to their share of obligations especially removal of economic sanctions against Iran,” said the president. “JCPOA is a document outcome of very hectic and laborious hours and should be protected to the full; Iran and the EU have many cultural common features which would provide the opportunity to deepen relations between the two,” he asserted.

On terrorism, Rouhani believed that fighting terrorism was a global commitment; “a definitive decision and a strong resolve are critical components of any fight against terrorism; if the deaths of all innocent people of any ethnicity and nationality remains equal in our views, it will boost cooperation and coordination against terrorism; helping the downtrodden and protecting them against cruel and barbaric groups is a human duty for all,” emphasized Rouhani, adding that “the Islamic Republic of Iran as a victim of terrorism, is serious in this fight.”

Martin Schulz, for his part, expressed happiness to visit Iran and Mr. Rouhani and believed that JCPOA provided the same exceptional opportunity Mr. Rouhani emphasized upon in his different speeches, to start a new chapter in Iran-EU relations; “it clearly showed that diplomacy was the best possible solution to settle differences and hit a consensus over common interests,” he told in the meeting. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is a ballast of stability in a region mired on pandemonium; Syrian crisis has huge waves of refugees swarm the European borders; we have a common and major objective to fight and defeat the ISIL,” he added.

“The EU and Iran should expand relations in science and culture along with economic and political détente; the EU highly welcomes the expansion of bilateral and international ties with Tehran,” he emphasized.
