More than 700,000 migrants arrived in Europe in 2015

GENEVA, Oct. 28 (MNA) – Nearly 180 thousand undocumented immigrants came to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea during the days of October, bringing the amount to 700,000 so far this year, said on Tuesday international organizations.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration stated that the figure reported this month exceeds that of the previous ones, and warned about the death of over 3,200 people in the process of crossing the sea.

According to reports from these bodies, most undocumented came to the so-called Old Continent through Greece, and the flow of migrants continues to grow despite the weather conditions.

Last week, the UNHCR lamented the loss of thousands of lives in the Mediterranean waters, and denounced the violence, exploitation and abuse suffered by migrant women and children during their journey to European countries.

This entity expressed concern about evidence received, and warned of the risks the refugees face during their travels and stays in shelters.

It also urged European authorities to take necessary measures to provide greater protection to undocumented immigrants, and facilitate hosting them by appropriate institutions.
