Over 1mn immigrants in Europe by Late 2015

GENEVA, Nov. 06 (MNA) – The total number of immigrants that arrive in Europe after crossing the Mediterranean Sea could exceed one million people in late 2015, according to predictions by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

According to a report by that authority, between November, this year, and February, 2016, around 5,000 undocumented people will arrive every day to Greece, coming from Turkey, a number that exceeds the previously planned figure.

If the prediction is met, more than 300,000 immigrants would arrive in Europe during the two last months of this year, a number that would add to the 744,000 people recorded up to October.

The UNHCR warned about the continuity of that wave, despite the winter season and the dangerous trips, and requested donation of around $96 million to face that situation and offer help to the refugees.

The European Commission estimates that around three million migrants will arrive in member countries of the bloc between 2015 and 2017, something that will have a slight positive impact on the community's economy.

Meanwhile, the top leaders of the group of 28 and humanitarian entities warned about the need to implement a quick and effective answer to the current migratory crisis, based on respect to the rights of undocumented people.
