Croatia collapsed by immigration crisis seeks help from EU

ZAGREB, Oct. 27 (MNA) – Croatian government asked, on Monday, for special help from the European Union (EU) for civilians, after being overwhelmed by the migratory flow, as that nation received close to 240,000 refugees in just a month.

The aid requested to the EU especially includes beds, blankets and medical teams to assist the refugees.

Hungary closed its border with Serbia last 15 September, which led to a diversion of the migration flows to this nation, whose Interior Minister Ronko Ostojic, criticized Slovenia for slowly receiving the outsiders on its border.

Ostajic rejected the plans to build a fence to keep immigrants out of Slovenia, where immigrants headed after the closing of the Hungarian border last Saturday 17.

Meanwhile, Slovenia, with just two million inhabitants and more than 60,000 undocumented arriving in its territory over a week, used the army to escort groups of 50 refugees on their way through a bridge on the Sutla River, towards Austria.

Foreigners reported that they were insulted and even beaten by the soldiers on their way to the border town of Debova highlights local press.
