In a telephone conversation Sunday night with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu following the two deadly bomb blasts that hit a rally in the Turkish capital, Ankara on Sat., Iranian First Vice-President Es’hagh Jahangiri expressed deep sorrow over the tragic attack and offered Tehran’s sympathy to the families of the victims.
Noting that the Islamic Republic wishes for peace and stability in Turkey, Jahangiri expressed the country’s readiness to send necessary medical aid to Turkey to assist the wounded in the attack.
The Iranian senior official stressed the need for Tehran-Ankara intensive and close cooperation in the fight against terrorism, adding “given the sensitive situation in the region and the attempts by foreing powers to take advantage of the situation have given precedence to increasing intensive consultations between the two countries' diplomatic bodies.”
Jahangiri also extended the Islamic Republic’s invitation to PM Davutoğlu for a visit to the country in line with developing bilateral cooperation.
The Turkish prime minister, for his part, asserted that the Saturday terrorist attack which killed over 100 people and wounded more than 200 others, was organized outside of Turkey.
Davutoğlu further stressed on the friendly ties between Iran and Turkey, calling for closer cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorist groups.
In a statement, Davutoğlu had said that the ISIL Takfiris, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants and the outlawed leftist Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) are potential suspects for the twin explosions that targeted activists who had convened outside Ankara's main train station for a peace rally organized by leftist and pro-Kurdish groups.
