Achaemenid city discovered near Bushehr

TEHRAN, Apr. 19 (MNA) -- The city of Temukan, an ancient city dating back to the Achaemenid era, has been discovered in the latest excavation at Borazjan in the southern Iranian province of Bushehr.

Archaeologists previously believed the historical site was part of Tavaj.

The recent discovery of the Sang-e Siyah, Bardak-e Siyah, and Kakh-e Charkhab palaces and twenty other sites and historical monuments in the region seems to indicate that the Dashtestan region is the same Temukan of the Achaemenid era.

The head of the archaeological team, Ehsan Yaghmaii, said on Tuesday that the recent studies prove that Temukan was not the same place local residents call Tavaj and added, “Temukan included the Dashtestan region as well as the central part of the Bardak-e Siyah Palace, while Tavaj is located several kilometers from the palace.”

Shards dating back to the Sassanid era have been discovered in Tavaj.
