Iran’s longest arch bridge opens

SHAHREKORD, Jun. 16 (MNA) – Country’s longest arched bridge Karun 4 opened today in Shahrekord with first VP Ishagh Jahangiri in attendance.

At 378 meters long and 300 meters wide, Karun 4 arch Bridge, in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province in south-western Iran, is the largest construction of its kind in the country.

Aiming at establishing a route between cities located in the way of Izeh-Shahrekord cities, country's largest arch bridge is set up on Karun 4 dam's lake.

The design and construction of the bridge began in 2011. It weighs some 3,800 tons and is constructed of 1212 pieces.

Director General of Roads and Urban Development in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province Ghasem Ghasemi noted that Karun 4 Arch Bridge has been designed and constructed by Iranian experts.

He also added the metal body of this construct was equipped with the most secure control system components.  

First Vice President Ishagh Jahangiri who was attending the inauguration ceremony, said the construction of the arched bridge under sanctions proves the country’s engineering capability and shows the Islamic Republic has obtained self-esteem even under the sanctions.
