Second Sharjah International Children's Film Festival was held on Sunday in Al Jawaher Reception in Sharjah. The award was AED 10,000 ($2722) and the festival’s trophy. The festival seeks to introduce the best long movie by outstanding directors to promote and foster children’s innovations. Painting Pool was formerly premiered in Qatar’s Ajyal Children’s Filmfest, China’s Shanghai, South Korean Busan, and Japanese Fukuoka festivals. It also had harvested Crystal Simorgh (phoenix) Prize for Best Costume and Stage Designer and Best Film by Audience Award in 31st Fajr International Film Festival, and Asia Pacific Screen Award (UNESCO Award) for Best Long Film. Among the cast are Shahab Hosseini, Negar Javaherian, Fereshteh Sadr Orafaei, Sepahram Farzami, and others. Maryam Hajirvand, first assistant director, who represented the crew, received the award on behalf of the rest of the team.
In a different story, the 8th Parvin Etesami Film Festival will be inaugurated in Iranian Artists Forum on Monday evening. The TV celebrity Azadeh Namdari will be moderator of the event. The Festival will also announce the results of a pooling process from 60 prominent art and culture celebrity for best actress, where Leila Hatami, Negar Javaherian, and Taraneh Alidousti will receive their awards for best actresses of first, second, and third generations, respectively.
The event also will announce best animation movie, and according to a tradition in past years, the birthday cake of the 8th anniversary of opening of the Festival along with official banner for National and International sections of the Festival will be unveiled.
Still in another cultural event, Houman Seyedi’s 13 won the Busan International Film Festival New Currents Award; at the same time, 13 was premiered in Warsaw’s first and second film competition section. In closing ceremony held on October 18, the jury board with members of Japan, India and Poland, awarded 13 with Netpack Award for Best Asian Movie. A statement by juries praised the film’s depiction of human social relations and specifically focusing on youth issues.
13 is presented and distributed by Visual Media institute. Netpack is a fund which seeks to promote Asian movies. The Award reportedly seeks to introduce young talented Asian directors in international festivals. The juries of the Netpack Award participate also in 44 other festivals in 28 countries.
