'Enrichment, Arak Complex, major obstacles for comprehensive deal'

TEHRAN, July 20 (MNA) – Vienna 6 negotiations on Tehran nuclear program ended while both sides have yet to agree upon a comprehensive deal.

According to IRNA, among the many differences between Iran and the 5+1 group on Tehran nuclear program to reach an agreement, Arak Heavy Water Reactor and nuclear enrichment, are the main obstacles.

Iran and the sextet – US, UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany – clinched an interim deal in Geneva on November 24, 2013 which provided six months for both sides to draft a final deal.

Enrichment amount, capacity, starting point, time, types of centrifuges and amount of enriched uranium storage, Arak Heavy Water Reactor, Fordow Complex, inspections, sanctions removal, and nuclear research scope were among the differences between Iran and G5+1 in Vienna 6.

“80 percent of talks in 18-day long Vienna talks contained enrichment and Arak Complexes,” said Araghchi, Iran’s senior negotiator, and added that “there are major disagreements on many issues including time frame.”

“Iran offered several solutions for Arak Heavy Water Reactor but the sextet accepted none,” said Araghchi adding that “the G5+1 also suggested other choices, all agreed on some but we believe that the reactor must be saved with lower amount of plutonium.”

According to Araghchi both sides agreed upon 60-65 percent of the draft but remaining 35 percent includes key issues that are the 80 percent of the final text.

Iran and 5+1 states reached a deal on November 24 according to which they agreed on a six-month period for reaching a final agreement by July 20.

While Vienna 6 talks did not reach an agreement by July 20 deadline agreed upon in Joint Plan of Action in Geneva, both sides extended the negotiations until November 2014.
