Iran Urges Iraqi Officials to Be More Circumspect in Making Statements

TEHRAN, July 25 (MNA) – Iran on Sunday urged the Iraqi officials to be highly circumspect and avoid making hasty statements.

“Iran has always defended Iraq’s the stability, security and territorial integrity,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told a news briefing.

“Since the beginning of the crisis (in Iraq) Iran has adopted a very positive and constructive role toward Iraq and has left no stone unturned in this regard,” Asefi noted.

Asefi added that the situation in Iraq was definitely different today if Iran hand not made such a positive approach.

Asefi was responding to a statement by the Iraqi defense minister Hazim al-Shaalan who claimed Iran was trying to destabilize Iraq. Al-Shaalan made this accusation in a recent interview with the London-based Asharq Awsat newspaper.

The spokesman said Iran considers Iraq’s stability as its own.

Asefi said other Iraqi officials have vehemently rebuked the unreasonable statement by the Iraqi defense minister.
