Privatization Of NIOC Organizations, Not Possible: NIOC Official

TEHRAN (MNA) —- It is not possible to privatize Oil Ministry organizations that are directly related to the country’s oil reservoirs having an important role in oil production, said here Sunday the planning director at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

The issue of privatization in the NIOC is carried out without difficulty only in those parts of the company that are not directly related to the country’s oil reservoirs, Mohammad Reza Moqaddam told the news agency.

State firms such as producers of oil pipes and manufacturers of equipment that are not directly involved in the production of oil have taken steps in line with privatization.

Stressing the time needed for companies and firms directly involved in oil production to loosen their dependence on the NIOC he further explained, “It is only once the companies are completely independent- that we would be witnessing privatization.”

“The Oil Ministry has taken measures to identify the companies eligible for privatization and the methods to privatize them,” he also commented. Large service companies including those working in the exploration and drilling fields have been privatized so far, however,” added Moqaddam.
