Ahvaz, world’s most polluted city

TEHRAN, Sept. 27 (MNA) – Ahvaz, a city in southwest Iran, ranked the most polluted city in the world, according to a global survey of reported data by the World Health Organization, the Financial Times reported.

Ahvaz with an annual average of 372 micrograms of suspended particles per cubic meter, followed by Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, with 279 micrograms and another Iranian city, Sanandaj, with 254, are on the top of the list of most polluted cities in the world, the newspaper said on Monday.

WHO released the list to highlight the need to reduce outdoor air pollution, which is estimated to cause 1.34 million premature deaths each year.
