He was the sixth Imam of the Shias. He was born in Medina in 83 A.H. (702 C.E.) and martyred in Shawwal 148 A.H. (765 C.E.). His most famous title was Sadeq because he only spoke the truth.
Taking the needs of society into consideration, Imam Sadeq took advantage of the suitable political atmosphere and continued his father’s cultural and academic movement and established a great university where he taught many fields of study.
He trained over 4000 students, including great scientists such as Hesham Ibn Hekam, who wrote more than 30 books, and Jabir Ibn Hayyan, the founder of scientific chemistry, who wrote over 200 books in various scientific fields.
Abu Hanifa, who was the founder of the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, and Malik ibn Anas, who was the founder of the Maliki school of jurisprudence, were also students of Imam Sadeq (AS).
The students of the university of Imam Sadeq (AS), who came from every part of the country, were both Shia and Sunni, and they all respected him very much.
Imam Sadeq (AS), our great and honorable Shia leader, declared that the proper protection of the air, land, and water from pollutants is one of the main duties of every government.
He warned us about the consequences of polluting our environment and said that a time would come when people would not be able to live healthily in any place in the world.
Unfortunately, today the Earth is suffering because most people are not heeding his reasonable scientific recommendations.
For example, the overuse of fossil fuels by the residents of Iran’s large cities, especially Tehran, has caused life-threatening air pollution recently, leading to an outbreak of cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses and even psychiatric problems among some people.
The land has become polluted in various parts of our country because of the production of too much garbage and too many disposable materials. Various kinds of hazardous heavy metals, like cadmium, lead, and mercury, have also polluted our vital soil.
And many of Iran’s bodies of water have also become polluted.
Isn’t it time for all of us to think about our duty to take care of the only planet discovered so far that can sustain life as we know it?
What are the best solutions to the environmental pollution problem, which has become a serious crisis for our beloved planet Earth?
