The orchestra, conducted by Mohammad-Hossein Hamidi, performed the Vigilant City Symphony at the Eyvan-e Shams Theater.
In their repertoire, the orchestra also included Sarbedaran, a composition by Iran National Orchestra’s former conductor Farhad Fakhreddini for an Iranian TV series by the same title.
The program went on with a poetry recitation by Iranian poet Abdoljabbar Kakaii. He read a poem about the first bomb the Iraqis dropped on Tehran, which he dedicated to all Iranians wounded during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
The orchestra, first conducted by Sharif Lotfi, was established in 1999 and disbanded shortly after a few concerts.
The Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality has restored the orchestra with musicians selected from among university students.
“The organization reestablished the orchestra to promote music among our citizens,” the organization’s Music Office director Mohammad Azadefar said during the program.
